UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN
The "Backwards" framework for Instructional Design
Developed by Wiggins and McTighe, this framework, together with it's accompanying principles and guidance, is used to design robust learning experiences where the learner develops transferable skills and knowledge together with a deep understanding.

For the fourth assignment of my Instructional Design Models course, I used the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework to create an overview plan for a series of teacher professional development workshops. The purpose of the workshops is to train elementary school teachers how to identify technology components to enhance classroom learning. By using the UbD approach the course is designed to ensure learners acquire:
-
a deep level of understanding of how and why technology components are best used to enhance learning
-
skills and knowledge which are highly transferable to the real life classroom setting.
